How will the drones influence our lives?

Maybe some of you experienced the time when we thought that “smartphones are the future”. The future of this time, it’s today and smartphones have undoubtedly revolutionized our society, our economy and even relational behaviours. If the smartphone is now an almost inseparable object of our daily lives, we can no longer say that it represents the future, he represents the present. The future is connected objects that can be handled from our smartphone: of the smartwatch to heat the House, through the sprinklers and the use of drones.

Areas of use very varied

the drones are particularly interesting because they can be used in very many cases. Initially, drones were used for military purposes, on the one hand for their obvious usefulness in this area and on the other hand for the exorbitant cost of this technology. For a long time, only the army had both the interest and the means to be interested.

Over time, things change. If they were used as a weapon during the first world war, drones are today more a military exclusive. PricewaterhouseCoopers (abbreviated as PwC), a company specializing in accounting and auditing, estimated market in early 2016 127,3 billion dollars. Over time, it will only increase but several factors undermine its popularisation, more on that later.

The UAV market will explode in the coming years

what do you think?

So what can serve a drone? We can divide them into three categories: on the one hand we have the military drones that are the property of the army, on the other hand we have drones dedicated to professional activities, and finally we have drones that cater to personal use (which, again, offers a variety).

They can help you in your work…

Maybe in you never seen with your own eyes, but many professional drones are routinely used. PwC considers the two main uses in this sector the agricultural use (analysis of the State of the fields/plants, maintenance etc) and monitoring of infrastructure (warehouses, laboratories, pharmaceuticals, etc).

In other words, the drones can do the same work of vigil / in-flight security officer as farmers. PwC estimates the market of these two sectors to more than 77 billion. Of course, many other types of use for the drones of businesses: exploration and discovery (to purposes geographical, ethnological, etc) and/or analysis of terrain with mapping, diffusion of the Internet ( Although Google has abandoned the project ), mail/parcel (Amazon, for example, work on a delivery project), transport of persons (a project is underway in Dubai )…

… or simply have fun!

For a lot of new technologies enthusiasts, for enthusiasts of unmanned projects and for the curious, drones can also be used for private use only. He is no longer talking about business or even profit (in part perhaps in some cases), it is only fun, utility and technology discovery.

We can do with its own drone, you may wonder? The followers of selfie will be able to use their drone to take photos or videos of them (some drones can follow even you as a puppy if you wish), so you can have images of you in new prospects, with more distance and better angles.

speed and/or competition fans will appreciate the drones for the “racing FPV”

speed and/or competition fans will appreciate the drones for the “racing FPV”. This acronym means “First Person View”, video game fans probably already know this term: This means that visually you feel like the person in the foreground. “Racing”, is simply the racing. In our case with drones, it is as if you had the impression of being in the cockpit of your drone with the camera that you place on it. So, you feel to be at the forefront during the steering of your drone, so if he goes at full speed… You can imagine the feeling you may have! If you enjoy the competition, you will certainly enjoy to do shopping with other drones.

Changes that we are perhaps not as good

all this seems to show great potential but several flaws come spoil the table. On the one hand, the price is still a problem for professionals (a Lidar sensor costs only several hundred euros), less for individuals because even if some drones appear expensive there is nevertheless a full developing technology behind. This does not excuse blatant prices exerted by some manufacturers, but it allows to explain.

a second drawback or, at least, not negligible and not necessarily positive element, is the need to adapt our society to the drones. On the one hand, a change in the law was necessary (and maybe others will come, who knows), that it is a real headache in the United States, laws are different from one city to the other. So according to the laws, we can expect to see drones flying around (it’s illegal in the city although legality does not interest everyone) and accept the potential dangers this may result.

The management of data from drones is also an element do not take lightly. On the one hand, in their nature they should (in theory) the rules of privacy (which in practice seems hardly feasible, as we can see today already with photos). Data transfer between your drone and other devices (smartphones, drones etc) has some limitations (for example if you are in the country and that the quality of the network is low) and if the situation can in many cases be avoided, the problem is not resolved so far. 5G will probably play a role in this story.
