AndroidPIT Awards: here are the winners!

the end of the MWC is fast approaching. Again this year, the new arrivals were many and we had the opportunity to discover many products. One thing is certain, the show opens more and more to other areas: virtual reality, Internet of things, connected accessories, Imaging… After several days of market (and races) intense, we decided, like every year, the list of the best new met at MWC 2017 edition.

as planned, we decided to present four awards at this event:

  • best smartphone

  • best smartphone on a budget

  • best wearable

  • best innovation

MWC 2017: best smartphone

the winner: LG G6

one year after the presentation of my modular smartphone the G5, LG introduced us to my successor in Barcelona, the G6. The South Korean manufacturer has abandoned its modular concept of smartphone to introduce a smartphone in tune with the times. Special signs: image 18:9 format adopted and the integration of Google Wizard. LG had no other choice but to innovate to find a special place among the manufacturers of smartphones. The Korean company appears more in the top 5 manufacturers leaders of smartphones in 2016, according to Gartner.

The bet is so successful for LG. The G6 is a smartphone that leaves no one indifferent and who did the best impression during the MWP. With a design that puts great emphasis on its screen 5.7 inches in definition + QHD, the smartphone has a data sheet muscle with a 821 SnapDragon processor, 4 GB of RAM, a double photo sensor and internal 32 or 64 GB of storage. LG also started at the level of its competitors and now offers an IP68 certification and support for Dolby Vision.

MWC 2017: best smartphone on a budget

the winner: Nokia 6

the Nokia 6 marks the return of the Finnish brand in Europe. With this smartphone, HMD Global, the company having acquired the license of the most famous brand of mobile phones, could change the landscape of the Android smartphone. Even though the smartphone was already known since it is marketed in China for two months, the MWC allowed Nokia to formalize it in Europe.

And the least we can say is that the Nokia 6 has everything a Smartphone perfect for small budgets. Although competition is tough in the sector at the present time, the smartphone presents strong arguments that seduces us. Nokia is back for the enjoyment of all. With a price of 229 euros, there simply for its money: screen 5.5 inches Full HD, coupled 430 Snapdragon processor, 4 GB of RAM, 16 Megapixel camera. All under Android Nougat.

MWC 2017: best innovation

the winner: sensor Exmor SR

presented by Sony at the beginning of February at the ISSCC conference, the sensor Exmor RS makes its appearance for the first time in a smartphone, in this case the Xperia XZ Premium. This sensor of 19 million pxiels is able to offer slow in Full-HD 1080 p 960 frames per second!

To make such performances, the Japanese manufacturer has integrated into its CMOS sensor of vivid “DRAM” memory that can record an image while it is processed by the processor. For example, a snapshot of 19.3 million pixels can be registered in only 1/120 of a second. Result? The photo is not deformed and the rendering is similar to a sensor with shutter. Demonstrations on the stand have blown away us and we can’t wait to test the last flagship of Sony to check it all!

MWC 2016 best wearable

the winner: Huawei Watch 2

by rewarding the new Huawei smartwatch, we wanted to greet the return of the connected watch. This watch has several interesting features, the most interesting being the use of Android 2.0 Wear naturally. Another advantage: the subscript IP68 found on some high-end smartphones: it’s tightness. Nice feature: you can use it to listen to music (through Bluetooth).

The watch put more on sport and fitness and thus uses several sensors running on various algorithms capable to recover data on the activity of the user, my heart rate, its caloric expenditure to provide fitness solutions. Finally, side look, Watch 2 put more on sport and fitness. Good news, the quality of the finishing has not been forgotten.
