3 tips to protect your Android smartphone

security and confidentiality are part of the subjects preferred among Internet users and mobile users. There is nothing surprising in this because there have been recently many hacks causing data loss. With that in mind, so we wanted to show you 3 simple things you can do to make your Android device more secure.

1. Encrypt your smartphone Android

the encryption is a process which code your private data on the device, so that nobody can read them without permission. Once your encrypted Android smartphone, new data will be encrypted automatically. Decryption can also be done automatically.

There are a wide variety of encryption/decryption methods, but the security key is not an algorithm owner. The most important thing is to keep the encryption key (password) for yourself, so only people you trust will be. Without this, it will be very complicated for someone else, other than you to break this key.

Full encryption of the disk on Android (5.0 and higher)

according to Google, “full disk encryption uses a key – protected by the password of the user on the device – to protect the data of the smartphone. After a reboot, the user must provide their credentials to access these data”. This, but when you reboot your phone, you can access your data when you provide your credentials. Which means that notifications of alarms and calls for example are blocked.

for those who already have Nougat, the Android based files encryption “allows different files to be encrypted with different keys that can be unlocked independently.” With the Direct Boot Function function, the devices can “restart directly on the unlock screen, allowing quick access to important functions of the unit as the accessibility menu and services of alarms”.

2. use a secure messaging application

Secure Messaging Scorecard by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is a good resource to control all complex processes to ensure messaging secure or not. There are many elements to consider, and if you’re not a security expert, may you have omitted them.

Their socre allows to evaluate the messaging applications based on the following criteria:

  • the encryption is complete?

  • messaging is encrypted to avoid that the provider has no access?

  • is possible to verify the identity of the contacts?

  • past conversations are safe if your keys are stolen?

  • the code is open to independent analysis?

  • the encryption is it well documented?

  • the application has t – she suffered a security by an independent audit?

there are many applications that meet all these criteria. Unfortunately, since the security and ease of use are often at odds, some applications that meet these criteria of security are not user-friendly or most popular.

, whether at the level of security or ease of use, I recommend to all Android users to Signal for the confidentiality of their messages.

3. Enable the audit in two steps for each service

the two-step verification requires two steps to authenticate. This method allows to protect the safety of many of your accounts. Many social networks offer this option to avoid a possible hacking your online identity. This is the case including from Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for example. The main sites of payment like PayPal but also like Dropbox cloud services offer this option. And, very important, you must also enable it on your Google account.

In conclusion, remember that you can also improve your life private/privacy by adjusting the way you use your phone and disabling unknown sources, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS… If you no longer use an app, game or other content, remember to uninstall it. Check well the content that you receive in your Android mobile, even if it comes from Google Play. In this regard, a new virus occurred under Android.
