Feelspace belt guiding you by vibration

you’re ready for a huge innovation? At the CES, we saw the new cardio GPS watches, Fenix 5 , New Balance RunIQ, Misfit Vapor. But in the end, all these watches are the same sensors. Well there was the Polar connected Tshirt, but it embeds GPS and sensor cardio.

no, I talked an innovation, a thing you have ever seen.

a German startup has developed a belt that can guide its wearer through vibrations. No need to even look at the screen of my watch! Just go in the direction of the vibration. Top, right?

presentation of the Feelspace belt feelspace navigation vibrations

the concept is based on research that began in 2005. To begin, you place the belt around the belly. Connect by Bluetooth to a smartphone (compatible iOS and Android). On this smartphone, the application is used to trace the route (already nothing that that, none of the applications of Garmin, Polar, Suunto or TomTom allows to do). Then, 16 vibrating motors spread all around the belt will come into action. They are the ones who will tell you in which direction to move/turn.

ca vibrates in front? Step forward. It vibrates on the left? Turn left. It vibrates right? Well, you understand. All hands-free and without looking at its smartphone, nor my watch. It wouldn’t top that trail or mountain biking?

the vibration moves around the belly as travel. Oh yes, this isn’t a heart rate belt, but more a belt like Flipbelt, which is worn around the stomach, over or under clothing.

technically, there are 3 operating modes:

  • the navigation mode: vibration give you guidance on the direction to take to follow your itinerary.

  • the road mode: there is no set route, but simply a point of arrival. The vibration will give management bird to the destination. Up to you to find the right path.

  • the compass mode: for the more adventurers, the vibration will give just the direction of the North.

my view

well, don’t get too excited too soon. This belt was initially developed at destination of the blind, to help them move to reach a destination. But the use for the sport was not a priority in the development.

the belt weighs still 450g. Well, Yes, because it was developed to hold a full day. And to operate many engines on a day, it takes much more of batteries that the small button of the traditional battery belts cardio.

Feelbelt has launched a campaign of crowdfunding end of 2016 to finance the production of belts. If we talk about the price, it’s € 800 will be required.
