Android 7.0 Nougat on Samsung Galaxy S7 (edge): our round-up of what's new

new version of TouchWiz, based on Android 7.0 Nougat, is currently under public beta on the Samsung Galaxy Edge and classic in several countries S7 S7 world pending the official release planned for December 2016. We have prepared an overview of what Samsung has prepared you.

the beta Android Nougat 7.0 for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge is available since November 9 in the United Kingdom and China, South Korea, Philippines and the United States since the developer preview 3 . However, it is possible to install it manually, and we have been able to test this week.

Samsung totally revised the layout of the settings on this version. Like what proposes MIUI and other Chinese manufacturer interfaces, the main parameters are highlighted in ranking the ‘advanced settings’ in a submenu to share. Thus we see and better access to the sound settings, display, update the software, etc. This is a good initiative on the part of the Korean giant, who may be able to silence the gossips on the little interface user friendly Android.

the big news, of course, is the passage of the definition in Full HD by default. For the moment, it does not have much relation to self-government, which is rather mediocre.

Panel the notifications and quick settings

TouchWiz resumes the new Panel of Nougat on Android Stock notifications. The first quick settings appear at the top – even if Samsung did already – and notifications are now grouped by application. A swipe horizontal to display the wheel of notifications the application settings and a long press takes us on this menu.

the quick settings have also been revised. You can search for application from the top bar, and you can choose the size of the grid of the shortcut from the developer preview 3 . On the first, we were stranded at 3 × 3, which is low and especially less than what we had on Marshmallow.

the launcher

at first glance, the homescreen has not moved a bit, but when you open the drawer of applications there is the persistent search bar, where you had to press search before. On the quick shortcuts , Samsung does not seem to have integrated them. This is a feature of Android 7.1 Nougat, but we would have liked to see them on TouchWiz 7.0.

the camera application has also changed. A swipe to the left opens the selection of the picture modes and one to the right shows the different filters. Taking pictures is always as good and fast than before.

Viewports and Quick Switch

using windowed applications is now more intuitive since each application can now take the size and shape of my choice and is more confined to the base’s 16:9 ratio.

is used to tell the truth rarely – if ever – this feature, but it is a good point for the South Korean firm in the face of Google which promised us it for months. Finally, there is the handy Quick Switch function, which allows you to switch from one application to another by tapping twice on the key of recent applications.

the SMS

the SMS application interface has been revised. Favorite contacts are no longer present on the top, and a letter has replaced circles coloured the Google Contacts of Marshmallow. Also- and this is certainly a bug-, it is sometimes impossible to answer SMS messages. This happened to me twice, when I receive advertising messages from brands. The bug deprives us of the opportunity to send the famous SMS ‘STOP’, so we hope it will be solved for the official release.

the phone app is now separated into two tabs, with a top search bar. The design of the calls has also changed, for a much clearer interface.

mode performance

mode high performance will return the phone in QHD – it is possible to do without going through this mode-, and past the brightness to 100%. This allows a better game experience, but interest remains relatively limited. Why simplify most of the interface and add this kind of unnecessary surplus?

Always On Display

of new screensavers for the mode Always On Display made their appearance. There are calendars, clocks, and the possibility of a static image. As a reminder, Always On Displays to always show on the screen saver of the phone notifications and information about the phone. Thanks to Samsung’s Super AMOLED screen technology, it uses very little battery.

the beta do not like Facebook

Facebook applications very often suffered crashes during our few days of test. Beta test requires, it will certainly set to the official release. In addition, the fact that it is always the same application that closes is perhaps a sign that the problem would come from Facebook optimization.
