Pixel and Pixel XL: Google copying the price of the iPhone, but not its support [Full Guide]

Google has officially announced its policy of updates for the Pixel range. The firm will follow the same policy as the Nexus range and should not offer equivalent to Apple support.

now that the Google Pixel and Pixel XL are available abroad, Google is updating its support documentation to reflect the existence of my two new smartphones.

a support articles is very interesting for future buyers of the smartphone from Google, because the giant details the duration of support updates for terminals. For the Pixel and the Pixel XL, Google guarantees sending new versions of Android until October 2018 , two years after the beginning of the marketing of both devices.

we know that Google takes more seriously the correction of security vulnerabilities and has put in place of the monthly updates of security for Android . Regarding this aspect, the giant explains that:

Pixel phones receive security patches for at least three years from their making available, or at least 18 months from the date of sale of the last device on the Google Store, if that period is longer.

Google applies so exactly the same policy as for the Nexus range phones marketed in previous years.

Apple did better with my iPhone

the difference between the Nexus range and the new Pixel range is that the latter is entirely designed in-house by Google, who has mastered so completely software integration on the device. With the Google Pixel, the Mountain View company has decided to tackle in front to Apple and its iPhone. Google Pixel is sold at the same price as the iPhone 7 .

updates to Apple management policy is however quite different. Since the iPhone 4s in 2011, the iPhone have at least four major updates to iOS. IPhone 4S born in iOS 5 has thus experienced iOS 9.

with the promise of Google about the Pixel range, born this year under 7 Android phones should receive an update to the Android 8 in 2017, and then to 9 Android version in 2018, but don’t have no right to Android 10. They have therefore had only two updates, twice less than the iPhone.

Moreover, it is not that these updates are complete, as proves it the absence of some new features of Android 7.1 Nougat on Nexus 6 p .

if Google wants to compete with Apple and sell a high-end phone, the firm will have to ensure support and also exemplary as the firm at the Apple service, even if we must remember that in the Android world, Google is the first of the class on this topic .
