Protect your eyes and fight against fatigue on computer screen through f.lux

If you have a job that requires you to stay many hours behind a computer screen (or if you are simply addicted to your PC), you have undoubtedly already experienced the tiredness and disturbances in your eyes . Personally, I remain – at best – eight hours before my screen if I do that work. But often (well, very often … OK, OK … always) I defer a layer when I get home. I then passed 10-12 hours of my day behind a PC screen 😯 And I am certain that this is the case for most of you 😉

The worst in this story are health this creates: muscle problems, joint, spine … and visual problems ! Your eyes are indeed put to the test and it is not uncommon to have the eyes red, burning, itchy after a long work session. Your body also suffers from this prolonged exposure to computer screens (one will see it just now). But the worst are those who work behind a computer screen night . If we did not know them as well, you would think they smoked a little salad the day before seeing them arrive in the morning … 😀 But no, the truth is the time they spent behind the screen of their computer which generates fatigue and visual problems sometimes very annoying.

How can I do to fight against this eyestrain while remaining behind my computer screen?

I could have told you to limit the time you spend behind your PC but this is a solution that I have not applied myself it would not be very honest 😛 And anyway you would not do! Instead, I have a solution that I use and that will probably interest you: f.lux , software that adapts the color of your computer screen depending on time of the day and therefore greatly relieve your eyes and your body. Once we used it, we can not live without it!

How to change the colors of my computer screen helps to regain Olympic form and doe eyes?

Computer monitors, tablets and mobile phones emit full spectrum light round the clock, just like the sun. These screens therefore emit blue light and exposure to blue light at the wrong time of day (night) can trick your body it is day at two in the morning and therefore disrupt your sleep cycle and your biological clock . f.lux acts in this way in removing the blue and green lights on the screen to help you relax during a long session behind a screen in the evening or at night.

colors emitted by different light: daylight, incandescent, fluorescent, halogen, LED and cold white LED warm white

f.lux automatically adjusts color of your computer screen with the time of day, hot night (to soothe the eyes and body) and cold (such as sunlight) during the day. f.lux you already help sleep better! But you can also use it just because it makes your computer look better in a dark room illuminated with halogen or incandescent bulb. Test f.lux for an hour one evening then disable it the next time, I assure you that you will return soon enough to f.lux so the change is radical. We did not realize at first but once you disable f.lux and that the usual color of our screen back, you really realize how basic the light scattered by our screen is aggressive!

Haste test? Cool ! I’ll show you how f.lux works. You’ll see it’s very simple!

Start download f.lux and install it.

Once installed, click on f.lux icon in the notification area to open.

Click Settings top right. We will configure the software.

We have three elements set:

  1. The color temperature to use during the day and the cycle during the night cycle

  2. Our geography (f.lux that can pass from one cycle to the other at the right time)

  3. The speed of the transition between the two cycles (how fast f.lux passes from the color temperature of the day cycle to that of the night cycle)

For the color temperature of the day cycle ( Daytime ), I suggest you leave the default to 6500K ( Daylight ) corresponding to sunlight (to unless you live in a cave in which case it will choose a warmer temperature).

For the color temperature of the night cycle ( At night ), you can go to a basic type of light halogen (3400K) . Try to move the cursor to preview the result and choose the one that best suits the room in which you are located.

If you want to unlock the other color temperatures (1200K, 1900K, 2300K and 2700K), click Expand Range top right. A restart will be required if the new color temperatures are unlocked.

Then set your location by clicking on the button Change under Set your location .

Enter the name of your city or postal code, click Search then OK to confirm.

Last little thing, you can set the transition time between day and night cycles either Fast (20 seconds) or Slow (60 minutes). You can leave the Fast by default if the temperature change is not too violent for you. Otherwise, select Slow for a temperature change will be smooth.

Once you have finished configuring, click Done in the upper right to return to the main screen f.lux and see the time remaining before the sun sets ( Sunset in X hours ) and f.lux switches to night mode. You can click on the orange button that represents the sun in order to have a complete overview of colors of your PC screen over 24 hours.

This may take days before you get used to new colors at night. If it’s too hard for you, you can start slowly with a color temperature of 3400K (halogen) or 4200K (fluorescent) if you really have trouble. After a few days of use, you can try to warm the colors of the screen until you find the color that suits you best depending on the room brightness . Note that the default 3400K color temperature removes about 3/4 of the blue light and about half of the green light, what is already huge.

I hope this application will be useful and will save your eyes and your body subject to the hardness of the modern world 😉
